The Fortezza (in this case pronounced "Fortedza" rather than "Fortetsa") is the Venetian fortress of Rethymnon, almost in the centre of the old town. The giant Fortezza, with its hidden centuries of history, is visible from every corner of the town and offers panoramic views...

The spectacular palace at Knossos. No sign of the Minotaur; he must be looking for food! Knossos, also known as Labyrinth, or Knossos Palace, is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and probably the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture.

The Mosque in the Fort, now desanctified. The Venetian building was originally the Monastery of St Barbara. The impressive Renaissance facade with ornate doorways and balconies dates from this stage.

The beautiful Chania harbour is wonderful, and at any particular time of day the light produces a different result, creating a "different place". The atmosphere has a touch of Florence and Venice, combined with the culture and character of Cretan people and traditions.
